P12: Prepare for Hi-Fidelity Prototype Evaluation
During next week's studio lab, you will conduct two types of high-fidelity prototype evaluations, namely heuristic evaluation and cognitive walkthrough. First,
watch the lecture video on "High Fidelity Prototype Evaluation" to better understand these two evaluation methods. Then, in the design notebook, include a writeup about the following preparation:
(1)
Write down 3 high-level, scenario-based tasks. Explain why you chose to evaluate these tasks. That is, what type of information do you expect to get and why do you need it? What questions do you want to answer through this evaluation?
(2)
Plan for heuristic evaluation. Select at least 5 heuristics from Nielson that you want the evaluator to focus on. In the studio lab, you will provide the evaluator with a link to your high-fidelity prototype, a list of tasks to do (without providing any explicit instructions on how to do them), and a
worksheet. The worksheet must be printed out and brought to the lab. On the worksheet, mark the heuristics you want the evaluator to focus on.
(3)
Plan for cognitive walkthrough. Write down the expected action sequence for each of the high-level tasks. In the studio lab, you will give the user a list of tasks to do, without providing any explicit instructions. The goal, during the evaluation, is to figure out the difference between expected action sequence and what the user actually did.
PO1: User Interviews - Prototype Evaluation
As a team, find a user or two---
someone who is not a student in CS449/649 class---to interview. Follow the same ethics guidelines as the ones provided in
week 3, but
make sure that you are now using the consent forms for prototype evaluation, instead of the ones for informational interviews.
For this week, put the user in the driver seat by
sharing your Figma prototype with them, and asking them to complete a cognitive evaluation on the phone. Your prototype should be now fully interactive. Record success and failure stories observed during the evaluation, and summarize the design suggestions from the evaluators. Use these interview findings to improve your app before the high-fidelity prototype evaluation next week.
Complete Course Evaluation (Opens Thurs July 20 Midnight)
Please help me improve the course by completing the
course evaluation form. It would be great if everyone can leave constructive and actionable feedback in the "I like...", "I wish...", "What if..." format. :)
Extra: Thinking Ahead
Think ahead and do some prep work for the final products, which include a final prototype (PO2a), Demo Video (PO2b), Final Presentation (PO2c) and Design Portfolio (PO2d). As a team, you can make some decisions about how to tackle the upcoming work. The details are in
Week 12 To-Do Instructions, which has been released early for your benefits.
